Sarah’s composition blends pulsing electronic beats with emotive soundscapes and rich orchestral textures, creating an immersive auditory experience that enhances the film’s visual intensity. This 81-minute performance offers a powerful and evocative journey, merging ancient and contemporary soundscapes in a deeply compelling way.
Rufus Wainwright's Dream Requiem
The LA Master Chorale presents the highly anticipated U.S. premiere of Rufus Wainwright’s Dream Requiem. Dream Requiem merges two long standing creative visions — Wainwright’s fascination with Byron's poem Darkness, depicting global upheaval after the 1815 Mount Tambora eruption, and his lifelong admiration for the great Requiems of Verdi, Berlioz and Britten. This powerful and evocative modern-day requiem, with sublime harmonies and emotive storytelling, is an opulent composition that seamlessly weaves together Wainwright’s distinctive musical voice with the timeless liturgy of the Latin Requiem Mass.

Souls Never Die by Zeljko Marasovich
"Souls Never Die" is a musical journey inspired by Dante's “Divine Comedy," and is the swan song of Croatian composer and organist Zeljko Marasovich. This musical landmark weaves together the majestic sound of the pipe organ, Gregorian chants, Mahlerian orchestral textures, and pulsating rythms, creating cinematic soundscapes in an awe-inspiring tribute to the cycle of life, death, and eternity.
Initially divided into four main sections (Prologue, Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso) the composer takes the most dramatic and epic parts of "Divine Comedy" and creates an unconventional, almost cinematic musical vision of it.
“Souls Never Die” is Marasovich’s requiem, creating a lasting legacy of the late composer’s ability to fuse the mystical dimension of music with profound reflections on life and the soul’s journey.
Experience the majestic power of pipe organ, choir, percussions, electronics and a visual tapestry of atmospheric lighting and projections bringing Marasovich’s vision to life. This is a once-in-a-lifetime performance that connects past, present, and eternity.

Mahler Symphony No. 2
Capping off the Mahlerthon with a massive tour de force, the Colburn Orchestra and Los Angeles Master Chorale team up on the Second Symphony. “The effect is so great that one cannot describe it,” Mahler reflected. “If I were to say what I think of this great work, it would sound too arrogant in a letter. … The whole thing sounds as though it came to us from some other world. I think there is no one who can resist it. One is battered to the ground and then raised on angel’s wings to the highest heights.”

Fulfilling the Dream
Every February for the past six years Angelenos have filled The Cathedral to sing, connect, and recharge for the year ahead. These are people whose lives, work, and art feed on justice for all. During the “Fulfilling the Dream” concert they find a place for their voices to connect in song with friends in like-minded purpose. As event leader Kayo Anderson put it, “Come and recharge the love that flows from you like nature. Come renew yourself.”
The concert features the DC6 Singers Collective, which specializes in gospel, RnB and popular music styles infused with their unique, enchanting flair that creates a musical experience that transcends generations. Original poetry and stories by members of Creating Justice LA’s writer community will surround DC6 and the Mass Choir’s music. They will tell stories of food inequity with hope for a brighter future.
Event Director and Creator David Harris shares that “The Dream that Dr. King laid out for society-wide justice, equity, and inclusivity is far from fulfilled. Organizations across the city work tirelessly to chip away at the gross injustices still plaguing our communities. The Fulfilling The Dream concert was created so that these leaders can come together and share their load, plug in, and find new projects to support.” Each year features and financially supports the ongoing efforts of select organizations. To date the concerts have raised tens of thousands of dollars for local groups while strengthening ties across the L.A. justice community.

Zubin Mehta Conducts Gurrelieder
Gurrelieder’s lush Romantic atmosphere, hyper-emotional language, endless melody, and sprawling scale bring to mind names like Wagner or Mahler. Arnold Schoenberg composed the cantata as a monument to late Romanticism before landing on his expressionist style that helped set off a musical revolution in the 20th century. Gurrelieder’s massive scale—calling for five soloists, multiple choirs, a narrator, and gargantuan orchestra—has made it a rarely performed but beloved masterpiece.
Equally rare are conductors who know how to navigate the piece, and LA Phil Conductor Emeritus Zubin Mehta is an expert in revealing the operatic emotion and architecture of Gurrelieder having conducted the LA Phil premiere, recording it multiple times, and choosing it for his final concert as NY Phil Music Director. Don’t miss this special opportunity to experience Mehta return to one of his signature pieces with the epic and poetic Gurrelieder.

Doug Atiken's Lightscape
Lightscape is an innovative multimedia artwork created by the artist Doug Aitken in collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. It’s a modern mythology propelled by music that asks the questions, “where are we now?” and “where are we going?” Lightscape is a shapeshifting act of contemporary storytelling that unfolds in various stages: a feature-length film, a multi-screen fine art installation, and a series of live musical performances.
The world premiere of the concert iteration of Lightscape caps off the LA Phil’s daylong Noon to Midnight: Field Recordings festival, with Grant Gershon leading the LA Phil New Music Group and the Los Angeles Master Chorale in a hypnotic series of original soundscapes and minimalist compositions to accompany Doug Aitken’s vivid moving images.
